Veneers are custom made, thin shells of tooth colored material, usually porcelain, that are affixed to the front of the teeth to improve the appearance. They are bonded to the natural tooth to change the appearance of the shape, size, color, or length. Veneers are usually made from either porcelain or resin composite, though porcelain veneers resist staining better and reflect light more naturally than the resin composite. Veneers can be used for teeth that are chipped or broken, uneven or misaligned, teeth with gaps and much more.

Like any dental procedure there is going to be a concern about whether there is any pain involved, with veneers it is usually a relatively pain free process. First a dentist with remove a very thin layer of enamel from the natural tooth, the amount is so small that anesthetic is not normally required. The dentist then takes an impression of the teeth, this is usually done with soft putty and there is no pain associated with this step. Then they are made and ready to be placed on the teeth. The dentist will apply a gel to the teeth, apply a bonding agent, and then dental cement on the back of the veneers. They are then placed on the front of the teeth, again there is very little to no pain involved in this process.
