What Do Veneers Fix?
Veneers, also referred to as dental porcelain laminates, are custom made shells of tooth colored materials that are designed to cover the front surface of the teeth to improve the appearance of your smile. They can fix a number of issues involved with your teeth or smile. If your teeth are chipped or broken, misaligned or uneven then veneers could be a great option for you. Teeth that are discolored for a number of reasons could be resolved from veneers. They can also fix gaps between teeth to close the space.
Veneers Consultation
To get veneers, it will require a few trips to the dentist. One for the consultation and the rest to make and apply the veneers. It is important to tell your dentist exactly what you are looking to achieve with your smile. The dentist will examine your teeth to make sure that veneers are the right option for you and then go over what the procedure will involve. To prepare your teeth the dentist will have to reshape the tooth surface to nearly equal the thickness of the shell. Next, an impression of your tooth will be made to ensure the proper sizing. The impression model is then sent out to a laboratory to be made. It will take a few weeks for your dentist to receive them. While you are waiting for them, you will have temporary porcelain shells.
Once your veneers are ready to be bonded to your teeth, your dentist will first temporarily place it on your tooth to make sure the fit and color are correct. Once the proper size is achieved your tooth will be cleaned, polished and then a special cement will be added to place the custom shell over the tooth. A special light will be placed over the tooth to harden the bond.
