What Are Veneers?
Veneers, which are also called porcelain veneers, are custom made thin shells that are designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your smile. They are bonded to the tooth surface to change their color, size, length or shape. Veneers are used to fix many different issues such as discolored teeth, worn down teeth, chipped/broken teeth, misaligned or spacing between teeth. Usually to get veneers it would take three dental visits, first starting with a consultation to know if veneers are the right option for you. Your cosmetic dentist will examine your teeth to make sure that they will work for you and that your oral health is good along with taking X-rays and impressions of your mouth.
Preparation For Veneers
To start the process your dentist will reshape the surface so that when the veneers are added there won’t be any extra thickness to your teeth. Then an impression of your teeth will be made to be sent out to a lab. During this time frame temporary dental veneers can be used for very unsightly teeth. Once they are ready you will go back to the dentist and before permanently cementing them to your tooth, your dentist will temporarily place the veneer on your tooth to examine the fit and color. Once all of that is adjusted and proper then a special cement is added to the veneer and placed on the tooth. The final steps include removing any excess cement and evaluating your bite and how you feel.
