Dental Implants in Plymouth, MI
Dental Implants are artificial teeth and tooth roots that are embedded to the jaw. The implants are used to replace single teeth or a few missing teeth next to each other. The artificial roots over time become fused to the jaw bone and can be used to create a foundation for a denture if you need one. Implants are fixed to the jaw bone which means they will not move and do not need to be taken out, they can be treated just like a normal tooth and greatly improve speech, chewing ability and overall oral health.
The dental implant process can seem quite daunting if you do not know what to expect. This procedure is done as an outpatient procedure in multiple steps. First the damaged tooth or teeth are completely removed from your mouth. Then your jaw bone is prepared for surgery, this process can sometimes require bone grafting but not always. After the bone completely heals the dentist will place the post, or “root”, into the cavity created in your jaw bone. This then needs to heal which can sometimes last for months. After the healing process is completed the dentist will take molds of your teeth and jaw to place the final “tooth” or “teeth”.
